I am posting hear because the stock from is not of much help. I have a stock fj40 1969. This weekend I dropped her into a creek after about 2 hr of digging and asking to borrow me buddies tractor. I was able to pull her out. But now I noticed that she leans about 2 in to the driver’s side. I have never seen this before. What do you guys think? Springs? Could I have bent my frame?

If you used a tractor to pull it out...you could have bent something. Where did you hook to for recovery?


You should have some solid frame mounted hooks for recovery...I hope you didn't wrap a chain around one of your springs and yanked. Don't laugh...I've seen guys do it. PUT ON TOW HOOKS OR D-RINGS!

I hooked up to tha factory tow hooks on the fr. bumper and also we tryed the rear tow hitch.

Hard to say without seeing the truck but worst case is you diamond the frame and I do not think that would give the old cruiser lean. Might have broken a leaft spring if you were lucky.

Start doing some measure on frame and axles, this will give you a better indication.

my guess would be your shackles pushed back during the pull and bent the leaf pack. Could also check the shocks, incase one was damaged and bent and it's stuck extended or compressed.

If you used the rear tow hitch, those are notorious for bending the rear cross member....be worth checking there too.

Give us a pic if you can. Maybe it's just LC lean (it sure sounds like it) that you never saw until you looked at it closely.

Man, that doesn't look too bad to me. Try measuring from the bottom of the skid plates to the ground and see what the difference is.

left shackle is pointing back farther than the right. Looking at the driver's seat says that somebody needs too lay off the hot-wings

Really, som'thins going on with the suspension, that's where I'd start.

Dave, square the tires with the bottom of the pic.............



After looking really hard at the pic, that pumpkin looks way out of wack, maybe spikerman was on to something.

Don't know how much of what you are seeing is due to camera angle, sunlight angle, etc. That's why I say measure it.


And, I don't think the driver's seat is affected by the suspension!

My cruiser lean was about that bad. You stare at any FJ40 long enough and you'll see that kinda stuff! :whoops:
