Hi everyone,

we’re currently in the process of building up a new Land Cruiser 250 for mixed use (approx. 70% on-road / 30% off-road) and are running into some challenges due to limited product availability in the European market.

We’re mainly looking for recommendations, experiences, and trusted shops/workshops – ideally with TÜV-compliant solutions (Germany).

Current focus:
  • Winch mount (hidden under front bumper)
  • Front bumper
  • Rear bumper
  • Suspension / lift kits
  • Tow hitch / rear solutions (space for spare tire or bike rack, while keeping towing capability)

We’ve found some good options in the US, but TÜV approval in Germany (often requiring crash testing, etc.) makes things complicated.

Specifically looking for:
  • Proven products/brands
  • Workshops or dealers in Germany or Poland (DE/PL) familiar with such builds
  • Any experience with TÜV approval/registration for similar modifications in Germany

That said, I’m open to any tips, ideas, or experiences worldwide – even if not TÜV-related.

Have you looked at what ARB offers? TOYOTA LANDCRUISER PRADO - ARB Europe - https://arbeurope.com/landcruiser-prado/

Hello,

I'm also building mine, based in Switzerland. I have a TÜV certificate available for a winch mount that came with my German-made mount. That said, a winch installation is a serious undertaking — you need to factor in a new alternator, a new battery and tray, new wiring harnesses, idle adjustment, and more. Expect at least a week of work and a minimum of €10,000 if you want someting able to pull 400A for one minute every minute.

As for bumpers, I'd set that aside for now and I'll recommend you to wait until ARB or another major brand releases one. There are some exceptions in Germany, but that's not my focus — I'm currently navigating the Swiss approval process for all my mods.

For lift kits under 50mm, OME has options depending on your requirements. I'm having mine fitted in mid-June — I went with BP51 primarily for comfort, since I'm not into racing. Keep in mind that lift is a double-edged project: the higher you go, the higher the overall cost. I'm sticking with 40mm. There's also a Dutch company that manufactures bypass shocks worth looking into.

On tow hitches, there's a German company importing an American-spec version, and plenty of other suppliers as well. Mine is fully hidden and removable, though a few bolts do interfere with the spare tyre positioning, which needs to be addressed.

One thing you didn't mention: don't forget the air compressor and the front locker!

Grüsse
Pierre
