Has anyone cut open both filters and compared them? Is there any difference?

I cut open a 90915-30002 a few years ago and it had a stack of dense media in the bottom that looks like it acted as a mini bypass filter.

I wondered the same thing for the internals. I have both versions here but never bothered to cut them open.

It is not uncommon for suppliers to retain the original tooling at the original location in case there is a supply chain disruption with the current location so if there was some kind of issue (capacity, manpower, etc) in Thailand, then there may be another run of Japanese filters. Just speculating if there are some being sold again.
