I printed a Car Cost Canada report while shopping for the FJC to get an idea of the invoice price. The report mentioned that Toyota Canada gives a $750 Cash Incentive for new FJC vehicles purchased and delivered between the period of December 1, 2009 - January 4, 2010

I have looked in the Toyota website for such deal but never managed to find for the FJC. Do you guys know or heard of any such thing or does Car Cost Canada smoke something... :D

Cheers...

keep us posted.. I'd like to know about this too!! I have a buddy who works for toyota, I'll see what he says!!

This only applies to remaining 09's !!

Cheers Darren,
Too bad there is no '09 available. Actually, I was speaking to a dealer today, and even 2010 are on special order... They have plenty of Auto transmission but none with 6-spd..
Patience is a virtue..

Have you driven an auto on and off-road? I love my auto. On road it always picks the right gear for me (the computer learns driving habits) and off-road, it never hunts for gears.

Don't get me wrong, my 73 fj40 (my rock rig) is manual and I love it, but if I could swap the auto from my FJ into my 40, I would do it in a second.

What is your particular reason for wanting a 6 speed?

Just that I and my wife like manual transmissions. I feel better control and decide for myself, not let the vehicle decide for me.

I have driven both trucks in the same day in snow and ice roads. The one with manual held very very well, the one with auto fish-tailed and sled all over the place making donuts and such. I found out later it had off-road tires which are pretty useless in snow and ice roads. while the 6-spd one had OEM Dunlop all-season (worked pretty good indeed).
I did a bit of reading here and on the FJcruiserforum and found that the 6-spd has lots of problem with the clutch throw-out beaing and bellhousing that Toyota does not want to admit and fixing on a case-by-case basis, so, now I am re-considering an auto trans. I will have to test drive one with auto trans and the proper tires to see how it behaves..

I am surprised about the 6 speed having issues. I thought it was the same tranny as the Tacoma?

I drove a Tacoma (2007) that kept popping out of second on the down shift!!

I personally would choose the 5AT as it does get a bit better fuel milage too!! That's what I'll be getting..... when I get one!! I already have the sliders for it!!

It is the same as the Tacoma. Tacoma owners have been having problems with it since 2005. Complaints are all over the internet. But, it seems that Toyota stood behind the repairs *most* of the times, but yet they did not issue a TSB or a recall to correct the problem for good. Owners who had their 6-spd repaired/replaced had the issue re-occuring shortly after. Some of them had the transmission replaced 2 or 3 times..

Not sure if it's the same or not!! I would be really frustrated if this was happening to me!!

Currently I'm checking out a 2007 in a 5AT!! but then that will mean I have to sell my 80!!

It seems to me some people with these FJC's have more than just a few issues with a few different things.

First of all these trucks to me seem far from proven! After reading issue after issue, I'm left wondering why bother?

If you want to replace transmissions buy a chrysler product, want rattles in your interior buy a GM!

In all honestly I'm just not impressed with Toyota as much as I once was, of course it could be due to the fact the vast majority of parts for my 1986 BJ70 have been discontinued through Toyota NA. Although Toyota Japan still has parts (go figure). I guess they finally figured out a way to stop guys coming in ordering parts for there 25 year old trucks. Just start making s*** like the competition does!

I'm interested to see where an FJC will be in 20 years!

In my mind if it isn't electric or doesn't get 50mpg it isn't worth buying off the lot... You're paying for 20 year old technology or older!

Of course I don't have a ton of money burning a hole in my pocket either, but for those of you that do please send a self address envelop to: Eric Winkworth RR#4 London, Ontario

lol cheers
Sorry for the rant, had to vent

I have a 2007 6 speed MT and have had absolutely no issues with the transmission or fender bulges or the rear diff. I have owned it since may of 06 and my biggest complaint is the gas mileage. I can live with that since I did not buy it for the fuel economy.

You have to remember that the 6 speed manual is full time 4 wheel drive and will automatically handle better in the snow.

My opinion is buy what you feel comfortable driving.

Good luck with your purchase.
