8.0 v6 carrier w/4.88 gears and Lockrite locker in WI FS
8.0 v6 carrier with 4.88 gears and Lockrite Locker. Gears are of unknown manufacture. I bought them used from a fellow wheeler (Supposedly 6000 miles on the setup, which I find hard to believe after I pulled the carrier). I had intended on running them in my 4-runner originally with 33’s (22re/auto). That is not going to work since I am now going to 36” tires, so I am going to a lower gear set. I am located in WI (can meet in central or down by Milwaukee), and would can ship, but the buyer pays the shipping/handling charges.
I pulled the carrier out of the axle and the gears appear fine, but there is rust inside the carrier on the side or the ring gear (surface rust that would probably clean up. Bearings look fine also) This is probably from the PO having a water/gear lube combo in the axle at one time running it in the mud/water ect. When I drained the gear lube it looked fine with no water in it. I do not know how long it was like this. The pinion is hard to turn by hand, but there were no noises when it drove down the road. If someone bought the whole carrier, I would reccomend ripping it appart and re-specing the whole unit. This isn't a unit I would recommend just throwing into your truck (unless you like to take a chance).
$275 for the complete setup or I will part it.
