I will suggest to you to try the new TOYO R/T. Comes in a 285 75 16 E rated and they are bad A$$!!! Also come with a 40,000 mile warranty!!! I love mine so far!

hehe, that warranty I surely would make us of! ;)
Will look into those R/T!

No, NEVER had any sidewall issue! A friend of mine with same car did blow up 2 BFG MT sidewalls! They just exploded after about 15-20'000miles! About same car weight.
The Toyo MT sidewall is very strong I feel, but the tire is really stiff! Especially in a leafspring car you can feel it!

Yes, I have to admit, we use it much more for rocks, gravel and sand than mud. We had some mud in Central, but since we are in south america there was hardly any mud. BUT when I buy the new tires we will go through the Amazon, it's supposed to be a pretty adventurous, muddy trail! BUT I also have to say I have 4x Mud Grip Chains I could use if the tires aren't good enough. So far even with the Toyo MT I got stuck a few times in mud and sand. It's unbelievable how this weight will pull you down! So if it gets too muddy I think I will have to use the chains anyway, with or without an MT tire.
And we will drive afterwards to get back home about 8'000miles of mostly paved roads and back home it's also mostly paved with snow and rain!

just checked the RT, they make it only for those fancy american pick up toys... who the heck drives with 17" or 18" on an overland vehicle?!

who the heck drives with 17" or 18" on an overland vehicle?!

Virtually all off road spec'd 4runners and Jeeps come with 17" wheels and the 100 series Land Cruiser has been equipped with 18" wheels since 2003, so while I personally like 15"-16" wheels most newer vehicles have moved on. I would imagine 15"-16" wheels wouldn't even fit over the brakes of most modern vehicles, which at least that means the braking should be much better.

but you hardly see a 100series or a newer 4runner overlanding... 90% of the cars we met are 7series, some 8series, some Landrovers, the american crowd uses F150 or bigger, Dodge Ram and older vehicles, most with 15-16" and some Hilux (16") and then the bigger crowd over 4tons. (Unimog etc) I just know of one Dodge RAM that uses 18" and he had a hard time to find tires. Had to buy some chinese tires at the end.
Also don't think it's easy to find a good tire down here in 18" or bigger. You won't see those big wheels very often in 3rd world countries. As said, just some 1st world country toy wheels.
