Heath,

I don't remember seeing normal tow hitches that have any plate below the receiver? Most of them don't even have the bars like this one, just two little spots to hook the chain to.

I will admit, i told him to go black cause the silver would just be too overkill with the silver truck and all. But it looks good. Especially with the little dent in the door.

color looks great -

I'd only make one change to the bumper, cause your reciever supports look not so clean.... I'd have used plate rather than rod or tube that you used.

I was thinking the exact same thing when I saw that pic. I really like the bumper - but the receiver tube is only supported at the face of the bumper + those two bars. A normal aftermarket receiver at least has some depth to it - welded through the 2" square tube rail, and often a plate as well, with holes for the chains.

I think the Slee reciever that goes through the bumper has diagonal brackets from the receiver tube to the frame rails behind the bumper - can't find a picture of it on their site at the moment though.

The slee does have the additional brackets for the receiver to attach to frame rails.

This bumper is the same except it doesn't have the additional bracing to the frame. It is welded with plate to the front and back. Looking at the gauge of steel this thing uses, i don't see how anyone could question the structural integrity of it from a towing standpoint. JMHO.

Ok, ok so let me state this is not the IPOR tow bumper; Lance is no longer offering those. This was added on to his standard swingout bumper. Thanks for the advice, looks cleaner and makes sense, but just to clarify.... Those pieces of rod are/were strictly for the safety chains not as a means of support. The 2'' tube is welded to 1/2'' plate (approx 6''x4'') which is welded to the 1/4'' bumper, a hole in each corner provides grade 8 hardware connection to the factory crossmember. Plus after just a few tugs my plate on my reese hitch was distorted beyond help.

there it is for reference but it does not show any further reinforcements from behind, states it is bolt on application. Mine is bolted, welded, and thicker ;) again these are not the same as a TOW BUMPER which has to be rated to be stated as such. i just wanted the capability if needed, and room for hitch acc. if they will clear the spare. i dont do heavy towing and have the tacoma for what towing i do.

Har har har... yes its true these bumpers provide horrible door protection:flipoff2:

I really like that color. I'm thinking of rattle canning my ARB with something close to that shade since my clear coat on the bumper is getting rough.

Mooker-- since you'll likely be pulling it off you might want to check the price of powdercoating, otherwise keep me posted on colors you find. that was the one downside to going gray was lack of a good rattlecan touch up availability

ok so i stand corrected ( i think ) this is the reciever system from slee on Romers truck per FAQ :) maybe he or christo will confirm this is the whole kit shown on the page i linked above for 195.

Yes, that's the pic I was thinking of. I'm sure what you have is fine for your stated purpose - light towing & hitch mounted accesories. And I'm sure it's plenty strong fore & aft - I just wouldn't want alot of torque on it.

I have checked the one place that is local and has the capacity to do the bumper and I thought the price was really high, $185 for black and $15-$20 more for color. I figured since I bought the ARB for $200 I would throw $10 in paint and be done. Ive been thinking about the Hammmered finish in the gray that people have used on their wheels and sliders. Im also thinking about painting my rear bumper caps too since someone backed into one and scratched it up. I figure I can hopefully knock it back out and use a little filler to smooth it out. Hopefully it will work and hold me over until I can pick up a rear tire carrier bumper

Hey jfz80, nice meeting you @ North meets South part 4.

Can you still fit the factory hitch underneath? I wasn't sure if the IPOR rear bumper mounted to the factory hitch mounting points, but on IPOR's site, they show a picture of an 80 with the IPOR rear bumper and the factory hitch underneath it.

yotafan--
Yes you can still have the factory tow hitch w/ this bumper, i opted for this for extra ground clearance and because i have the tacoma w/ a hitch if needed for towing. It uses the same mounting points as the hitch but is enough room both in the bumper and the mounting hardware. C'mon you know you want one now ;)

Get one! Tell Lance and Cam we sent you!!!!

JUST DO IT!

not to mention it furthers the notion of keeping the flares!!! although i like the looks of the import market 80's w/ no flares i am still in the minority group that like the flared look. and this was icing on the cake after bumper install.

and a couple of folks have pm'd me about the sequoia wheels and fitment. To my surprise they only sit 1/2'' closer to the hatch. the Truxxs 35x12.5's are 7 1/4'' off the hatch and the bfg's are only 6 3/4'' off the hatch. some pics of that too
