Any tricks - hints - clues on how you got the 40th badge / decals off without destroying them?

Thanks, R -

Thanks, R -

On the decal, I started out using a little heat from a blow dryer and got the edge up enough with a dull pocket knife to start tugging on it slowly. I kept the area under the rising decal damp with that Goo Gone citrus orange stuff but I am not sure it helped. As soon as I got a little bit of the edge up, I noticed that the heat from the blow dryer was causing the decal to deform slightly. So I started getting the metal a little warm from the backside so as to not mess up the decal. I worked it reeeeaaaal slow and it came all the way off with no issues.

On the "40," I just used a little heat again and a brand new razor blade to separate the 3M VHB adhesive from the paint, being sure not to ever tug on the emblem. I literally just pushed on the blade to separate it. The issue I see here is that I was not worried with scratching the fender, so if you are taking them off of a truck with a nice fender, its going to require some patience and creativity because that VHB stuff is mucho sticky. I believe I would try fishing line and use it like dental floss to see if you could separate it.

Thanks Jim.
