260K on the odometer when I got it in need of a valve job. Who knows how many real miles though cause the PO drove it on a broken spedo cable. Needed valve job, spedo cable, some emission gremlins sorted out (passed smog a month ago!), and it needs a knuckle rebuild.

Butt

I did my knuckles at 200k and found only a slight wear one trunion bearing. All other races and bearings looked almost new. I was oozing grease out of the knuckles and thought it was a good time to rebuild but if I knew that things looked that good I would have put it off another 50k or more. Al least my knuckles aren't leaking as much.

320K nothing has been touched, except for pwr steering pump, 3 clutches, radiator, and regular maintenance

Oh yeah still purrs like a kitten!

mine has 243,000 miles on it.. newer tranny,t-case, water pump, raditor, lots of nickel and dime stuff. pd. $3900.00 for it and close to $3000 worth of repairs, and new tires $525 = $7425
imo i would get on fj80 (ride comfort and about the same price an a auto)
don't get me wrong i love my fj62 but for the same price i could get an 80 (or pretty close)
if you can work on the lc it will be cheaper

I just did my 227,000 mi oil change this weekend.
Bought it new so with a total mechanical background things shape up very well. The radiator and exhaust replacements were done early on. AC crapped out very quickly, but with the price of gas and where I live I wouldn't run it anyway... and I remember the cup holder was killed by sun exposure when I lived in CA. :)
She has been an absolute beast, the best vehicle I've ever owned.
Oh, there was a clutch in there somewhere between 195k and 205k mi.

Thanks for all the replies. Like I said earlier I change my mind alot so I may end up with a 60. I like the round head lights.

Good catch on the shoulder restraints! I had not noticed. I will have to keep that in mind.

Do they have child locks on the back doors? I figure if they do not than I could just undo the inside handle or the lock button. If I am thinking right that would be no different than a child lock accept for the inconvenience of it being on all the time when adults are in the back?

Hope to reply back to all of this in a month (or 6 months) once I have found the right one for us.

Thanks!!!

not sure how close to common an FJ is with a BJ but our current problems are a radiator and that darn seal between the standard transmission and the transfer case started to leak. Had to change a master cylinder a while back. Oh but hey it's got over 400,000 miles on it so what the heck. A broken lower rear shock stud, a door handle etc.

perhaps this is wrong to suggest..but i sure like my 3rd generation 4 runner... 4 people, a dog with a canoe and gear.... or 3 people and 3 mountain bikes inside with gear...or 5 people with back packs, hiking boots and a big cooler of beer:D
