2003 gx470 with 296,000 miles. Shifts fine, transmission fluid looks clean, no smell, proper level on dipstick. Hear a slight whirring noise when engaging drive on a cold start( but it could be my fan clutch). It goes away by the end of my driveway( 1000 ft).Been noticing what feels like an engine stumble in 5th gear under slight acceleration( rpm less than 2000). Doesn't seem to do it when I select 4. My mechanic thinks it's torque converter locking and unlocking. I was hoping it was something less expensive, but I'm beginning to think he's right. If I have to pull the transmission, I'd want it gone through or replaced, I think. I'm hoping it has a tag somewhere that would say if it's the original transmission.
Thanks in advance
