they are commonly called "pipe plug sockets". use that parameter and you'll speed up your goggle search

thanks ..:)

would all the variants of the 1/79-10/85 40 series gas tank drain plugs fall under this category as well , as they use a steel or copper crush ring and are flanged type service plugs ?

- have you ever seen a metric kit / set out there ?

- maybe OTC makes one ?

I haven't needed a metric set yet but they are available. I use pipe plugs on air injection rails. It seems 3/8 and 10mm are close enough, as are 13mm and 1/2"
They are obviously out there, at least from the big boys. Frankly, I'm not sure the pipe plugs aren't actually SAE . Every air injection rail I've plugged used SAE
plugs and SAE hex or square drive. The grease plugs on the steering knuckles are 1/2" drive square not 13mm

If they are flanged with a gasket or copper crush ring ,they probably aren't a pipe plug. Probably just a metric thread with a hex drive.
The theory with pipe plugs in dependent on their taper. No gasket required

i am hunting hard as we speak for a worthwhile period correct JIS substitute for the NLA / Disc. 1/79-10/85 gas tank service plug specimen oem example i have had since high school below .......

- Toyota did use the Square Female style service plugs from 1962 - the 10/ 85 HJ47 pro-date circa. era-time-line ..

- not any more I do not think ?

- recessed female hex-style like you mention above is now global Toyota OEM standard across the board …

- also , fine threads verses coarse JIS thread pitch is at play here too …

so far no luck ...
