I just put about a 1.5" lift on my 83' and i want to put some 33's x 10.5 on there. I know 33 x 9.5's work and i imagine 10.5's would work but just wanted to make sure.

Thanks.

A 1.5" lift isn't as common so it's hard to know how this will work. With a 2.5 - 3" lift you'll be fine. My guess is that it partly depends on how you use it. If you wheel it hard, really stuffing the tires, then you might get some rubbing, probably only in the front. If you don't wheel it hard, then you'll likely be fine.

But then, you know what they say about free advice...

Ditto what Lovtoski said...

That is an odd amount of lift for a 60, so hard to say, but I think he nailed it when he said it depends on how hard you wheel it. It will likely fit the tires for street and mild wheeling.

So you have 1.5" lift custom springs (or do you have a body or shackle lift)?

I did a 1" add-a-leaf to some Fj62 springs and had them re-arched. I then put on some 1" over stock shackles. Thus per my measurements its close to a 1.5" lift. I am running 31's on there now and they look OK but i have some space for some larger tires. I don't wheel hard. Just some jeep roads and some light back country. This is mainly a family camping truck. I am just worried about a 10.5 being too wide. I am thinking i will be ok.

Thanks,

Jason

Tire wise I think you'll be fine. Consider wheels though...some are using stock wheels w/33X10.50 and are fine, some don't think it handles well (wandering). Hard to figure out why because many of us use (or have used) 31X10.50's, but going to a 33X10.50 apparently is an important change. 15X8 is the ideal wheel width for this tire. Lots of posts on this topic, including some info in the FAQ.

If you can, my advice is to do it right the first time and go for the wider wheels.

31's vs. 33's

On my previous'85 60, had 31/10.5's; On current '87 60, have 33/10.5's. Both instances on stock rims. Feels the same. Also, consider 15x7 if you go bigger on the rims. I think BFG says 7 to 9 inch rims for 10.5" tires.

I Made 1.5in lift blocks and have slightly longer shackles and run BFG AT Ko's in 33 by 10.5 on 15 by 7's and dont have any problem at all , Been on truck for last twelve months and love them in everything but clay

On my former V8 60, I ran 33x12.50's with the smokey mountain lift on 10" rims, they rubbed only when really stuffed (deliberately drove off a 2 foot vertical conctrete abutment) at the rear of the front wheelwell. Rears were fine. :D

Delierately eh? I use the same line on my girlfriend :flipoff2: Yeah, I ment to do that....

I'm running 34x10.5s Interco Super Swamper LTB which are true 34's on stock rims. I don't rub on full stuff. But I do expect to rub if the wheel is cut and the tire is stuffed (only been out twice with these). I came from 33x9.5s and they never rubbed even under some hard wheelin. I'd say that the 33x10.5s would be a sweet set up for a 60. Depending on where you live under full load you'll probably use a little more clutch starting on a hill but I wouldn't lose sleep over it yet.

Chris, any pics of the swampers on the 60? Sounds bitchin'!

Lift blocks? How did you make that work with an SUA rig? And if you are SOA, why blocks as well.

I have 33x1050s on Stock rims (6"?), No lift, no problem so far but haven't wheeled them yet.

Chris, how much lift are you running again?

You da man Doc! I'm running a stock set up with add-a-leafs. 34s seem to fit pretty comfortably I imagine that will rub a little under full stuff with the wheel cut hard. Only had it out for that one run in the snow since I mounted them. They ride a hell of a lot better on the road than the 33x9.5s BFG ATs. No more cruiser lean in the turns!
