I have been looking for a fjz80 for quite a while now, but they seem to be very hard to find here (BC canada) and usually prices are quite high.

I was just wondering if there are any BCers on here that can give me tips on where to look for one. I tried mostly craigslist. There is one listed right now, a 93, but the asking price is 8000. Seems high to me, but maybe thats the going rate for one here? I read on the forum people regularly buying for ~5000, but that in the us. Maybe it might be worthwhile for me to import one from the US? But finding one and not seeing it person makes me nervous.

I have a funny feeling that finding one here with lockers is nearly impossible since there are not that many around here and there were not that many sold with lockers. I would be really happy to just find one unlocked for a good price.

There are plenty of imported RHD ones for sale here, but they usually go for 10000- 14000, and I'm really looking for a LHD one.

Keep your eyes (and search engine) peeled for Lexus LX450. There were no Land Cruiser branded 80 series sold new in BC. (or Canada AFAIK).

I will keep my eyes peeled on craigslist seattle for one.
I wonder how one would go about importing that?
I read up on importing from the us, but from dealers that will hold it until I complete the paper work.

I wonder what the procedure is with a private sale.

thanks for the input guys!

I think the procedure for bringing in a truck from a private seller is pretty straight forward. Maybe d0ubledown will chime in. He brought in a sweet 80 series from Washington.

When you compare prices in the US remember the exchange rate, shipping(or flying/driving down), 6% GST, 6% duty, and inspections. The selection is ubundant in the US, but make sure you pay the right price. Take your time. Have fun.

You have to get the title from the previous owner. Other than that look at www.RIV.ca. It really isn't that difficult. Just get your paper work in order. The US customs needs its paper work for 3 day to clear for export. Just check out their website.

I think it's best to import one from the US. Even better if it can be further south.

I got mine thru a mud member thru a coastal member. It is a 91 with the 3fe engine. I like it. But I think it's best to get a later year. Like a 95 or 96.

Personally if it isn't going to be a trail machine, or it is but light use, buy a 100 series. The 80 series are getting quite old, and with this down turn in the economy down south the prices on the 100's are very tempting.

The 100 is better on fuel with the V8. My 91 gets about 200 kms to 70 litres of fuel driving it in town only by my wife. This is winter with a bit of warming up too. My BJ60 is pulling over 500 kms to this same amount of fuel.

Wow! I knew the gassers were bad on fuel, but not that bad! My 81 gets about the same as your 60.

I am averaging about 10-12 mpg with my 3fe, I started loooking 80's but am now looking at full sized diesel crew cabs for about the same price as a early 100 series I can have 1 ton turbo diesel stump puller that gets me 18 mpg in the city.

wow...200 only ha? big difference between the 3FE and 1FZ. ill get about 450ish per 75ish litres in my 80. however im on 315's and do 90% hwy from surrey to abby. when im city drivin though..ill probably net about 350ish. not a bad price to pay for 5000lbs of jet black awd 80. :grinpimp:

the 100series is also a good option as the years pass on. its got the potential of being as capable as an 80 all mods being equal. if fuel economy is a major factor, the 100 is a better choice. but if ultimate coolness in LC ownership is a factor, than nothing beats the 80. well of course HDJ81's and BJ6/70's are a close 2nd...:D

my mpg is real life town driving. Not highway. For highway we can 400 kms for 70ish litres.

But it sucks ass in town. My saving grace is my wife only goes thru a tank every two weeks or longer.

I know the 1fz engine gets better mpg than the 3fe. The 3fe has strengths over the 1fz. But mileage isn't it.

1996 Land Cruiser Landcruiser good condition ARB OME LOCKER

fly into phoenix for the weekend and drive this home :)

This one sounds to be the best deal. Although I wonder if it is better to bring in one that hasn't lifted. Also, if "they" are not dealers, then WTH are they. Curbers? Also, love it when they list a vehicle as .... km/miles. Okay, what is it: kms or miles?

Anyways, its got me thinking (AKA dreaming). Maybe I'll get mom a oneway ticket this year.
