Re[placing the timing belt on my 2006 Sequoia. Why does the manual instruct us to first turn the crank to 0 deg TDC, check that the timing marks are aligned on the camshafts/belt, the to rotate crank 50 deg ? I did this, and when I removed the belt, the drivers side (left) cam pulley turned a few more degrees on it's own. And for reassembly, the manual seems to show the crank at zero TDC, and the camshaft pulleys aligned to their corresponding marks. What am I missing?

the marks need to be correct at 0 degrees but at 50 degrees it reduces the chances of valve damage if the cams move independent of the crank. Most of the aftermarket instructions just say to set it to 0 during belt replacement. Just match the marks on the timing belt to the marks on the gears starting with the crank, right cam, then left cam, doesn't matter if your at 0 or 50. Then rotate back to 0 to double check.
