Hi All,
I am in the process of changing timing belt in my 1992 HZJ77. I aligned both BDC marks and after removing belt tensioner and spring I noticed that the crankshaft pulley had rotated counter clockwise a bit. Any ideas why it moved and how should I proceed further?

Thanks

Not sure about the HZ but when i did my 2LTE belt and gasket a few years back, the cam moved a couple teeth as soon as i disconnected the belt. The valve train pushes it to a neutral spot where its not pushing unevenly.

Might be similar to where your crank was sitting on pressure from the pistons. can you move it back to BDC? Just when you go to re-install, put a ratchet or wrench on the crank gear bolt and turn to where it lines up as you slip the belt on and it should settle all lined up. maybe get someone to hold the ratchet in place while you install the belt. I remember screwing around for a bit trying to do it myself.

Are you parked on a hill? Somethings caused the engine to rotate. No problem ,just rotate it till ALL the marks line up to their respective points.
I always leave it in gear with wheel chocks when I do it so it cant move.
