The Specter TRE for 60 series are "Three 5", "555" brand. If you want to get these, "CoolCrusers of Texas" has them on sale for less than $70! I believe Liquid Off Road has them for $90. SOR is one of the most expensive sources of parts out there.

Do a searc in the forum for "joint fuji" - there's more TRE info there.

I myself ordered a set of 555 from Specter, and returned them in favor of the Joint Fuji units. Sittin side by side, the Joint Fuji looked and felt to be of higher quality.

Just my $.02

Also, does anyone have any experience or comments about the tie rod ends from Specter Off-Road? It sounds pretty good and costs about $140 for all 4.

Thanks,

Chuck

I think its only the 40 TRE that come with a new rod if OEM.

the 555 brands is not to my liking. the Fuji Joints are better IMOP, boots don't tear and they don't rust.

OEM will run you about $50 each end

Are the "Fuji" ones the Toyota dealer item? Or are they available eslewhere?

Thanks,

Chuck

Got mine from CruiserParts.net, $90.

I've read that Fuji is the sub-contractor which makes Toyotas TREs, which would make them identicle. I don't know if this is true, but sitting the 555, Fuji and OEM side by side, the Fuji's appeard to be exactly the same as the OEM. The 555 did not!

I have about 2000 miles on the Fujis now - at least 200 on pounding washboard and a few dozen truely off road, and all is well with them. Based on what I've read, I'm anticipating failure of the rubber boots, but that's a cheap fix (poly boots from SOR) and so far so good!

Incidently, I sprayed - no, flooded - my old TRE and RRE's every day for a week with Seafoam Depp Creep, and when it came time to change them, they spun out with hand tools!!! @ 190,00 miles! And she ain't no highway hog - as a working "tour" truck for 12 years, it has done at least 1,000 (yes) desert river crossings, but I am fanatical about keeping it very very clean, esp. after alkaline river/ mud work. Not a spot of rust anywhere yet!

is there an aftermarket tie rod out there that is as good or better than OEM?

i saw on man-a-fre.com they have some heavy duty tie rods. i have not heard anything about them and do not have them so i cant say if they are good or bad.

now back on subject- i waited for cruiserparts.net to get in the fuji joints and now have them sitting on my kitchen table. they look really nice. now all i have to do is put them in. i cant decide if i should do the rear disk brake conversion or the tie rod ends first though :D
