Alright, Ive developed another tic, A very annoying distracting one. All of us know what a mech. locker sounds like when your going around the corner. Take that and apply it to the front Driver hub.
At first I thought it was a birfield spinning and just actuating the locker because it goes away at Higher speeds, but after talking to my uncle weve come up with this conclusion: A; the Cage bearing in the birfield is worn and is 'skipping' or B; I broke the birfeild and it some how drives just fine in 4wd.

What are do you guys recomend checking?
BTW: I dont have time or money (for seals/grease) to pull it apart and check it. Ill either buy a new birfield (55.00) and through that in their. Looking at 75.00 with tax/seal/grease. And thats much I have to spend.

sounds like you have narrowed it down by locking unlocking the hubs.
unless you put the hub together wrong, last time, its one of those thing where you just gota get in there and get greasy.

'cept orlielys aint cryo treated, heat treated, 30 spline, improved cage and race design made of 300M , rated at 7000 foot pounds at 90 degrees of twist, and the rest of it is made from 4340 chromoly. :flipoff2:

Longfield Super Axles

The cost of the birfs arent the issue. Its having to change broken ones on the trail that is a PITA.

You don't need longs unless your're running ridiculously large tires and can't keep you foot off the gas. Its all about technique, most birfs break while backing with the steering cranked all the way over and it binds. Adjustment of steering stops, and taking it easy, will keep you from breaking birfs.
I guess its cool though to break stuff, I'd rather wheel when I'm on the trail and save the wrenching for the garage.

IM only running 31's... And IM pretty positive that my little 4banger wont break them with 31's.

I believe its just 20 some years of life, and the fact they hadnt been serviced until i got my hands on it!

That's what I thought, and two years prior I had pulled the Birfs apart completely, greased 'em and reassembled 'em, then everything else was torqued to spec and put back together perfectly.
So I pony'ed up for the replacement parts from Bobby and Marlin.
