the original hoses weren't horrible but its not unusual to have to drive 100 miles at night to get to work so I didn't feel like getting stranded for the sake of a small hose. of course, after all the 'small' things i've done to this truck since i purchased it, i'd probably be close to a new one o_O

the best thing about this project was the hose clips - the PO used some nasty dime store hose clamps and the original ones were questionable. if you've never used these it's worth it just to put them on: they have a red pull tab to keep them opened. position them and then just pull the tab with some pliers and they snap into place... super nice

It's funny, but most don't like spring clamps and would do like your PO did and replace them with worm-drive clamps. As evidenced by your old hoses, worm drive clamps don't adjust when things warm up or cool down, and that squishes the hoses. Sometimes badly. Ever had the bung on the radiator break loose from it's solder and wonder why? This can be a hose clamp that won't grow enough when things get hot.
Without the right tools to work with them spring clamps can be a pain, but they are a better idea.
