woody are you talking about a different kind of "close"?

It appears to me that every user has the ability to close or delete the threads that they authored.

Every thread that I've started shows this in the thread tools menu:

attachment.php

What FJ40 MNTCRZR means is that the close and delete options don't show up for him in threads that he's started.

This came up because he started the last two TUTs and he was unable to close #50 when it reached 15,000 posts. We had to ask a mod to do it.

well, 'supporting' members have some added powers....so not everyone has the option.

MNTCRZR, it's gota be an issue with groups, permissions, heirarchy, and such...might take some time to research....

Thanks Woody, does this mean you are on it ?

Oh

I'm special.

tee hee

:D

Yes you are, very special. :D

good catch...

no one is supposed to have Delete or Close powers, other than moderators...but I 'opened' that option to those in the SChat corner as part of the Chatters usergroup...

however, when members joined that usergroup, the close/delete power extended to ALL areas of the forum.

bug fixed - thanks :)

which has been the case forever....the thread is consistently reported when it's time to close, and takes a mere second for one of us to handle it.

Actually we've been doing it on our own for quite a while, using that "bug". Whoever started each TUT was closing it after 15000 posts. Like the last 20-25 or so TUTs I think. Except #50 of course.

I also was able to delete some threads in the for sale section after my items were sold. I figured that lessened the load on the servers a bit and made for a less confusing for sale section.

Also people have been deleting their own threads in chat (not just schat) when they derailed. This has been going on for a while. You'll probably hear some complaints. :whoops:

It was kind of a nice feature actually.

that has zero effect on server load...believe me, I have $$$$ invested to not worry ;)

that explains why some folks keep asking for their threads to be deleted...old sale threads are useful for price history for folks trying to buy or price their stuff

OK, yeah that makes sense.

fixed the 'close' feature in Chat for Supporting members....should keep most of the natives happy ;)

 thanks!

much appreciated, Woody. I'm in TUT all the time anyway and it's of GREAT assistance to have the utility to close a thread that you start. Thanks for all your hard work.

'Edit' post gone?

I know I used to be able to edit my posts - did it when I had some parts for sale in order to update the status to SOLD. Now I can't find the 'edit' functionality - am I missing something, or is there an actual problem?

EDIT: - I was able to edit this post, but the 'edit' button doesn't appear in any of my other posts.

Original sale price $600

I had a few individuals decide to 'edit' their pricing in their original post...raising the price :)

so, editing is now limited to 24 hours....just make a final 'sold' post

Interesting - the "Last edited by" note that appears when you edit allows users to see what has changed. I guess the 24hr rule is for the good of the community, mainly those who can't figure that out.

Understood - thanks for the clarification.
