Yes, I posted it wrong. I like the bigger tank and that it is outside of the cab.

Good on you for bringing one back from certain death!

Sure, theres is a lot of work ahead of you but once you get it done... you will love it!

Ok, I know it has been a little while. I can only get over to my buddies place to work on the car about 6-8 week. We also are kind of splitting out time between two projects. I have been really busy with my music. Playing shows and running sound for bands.

Well we have managed to get one side off of the car and started to weld up some new steel for my baby. It has been quite a change to get the pieces to fix good. It take time and patients. Something I don't have a lot of. We are slow;y getting to the point where the body will come off the frame. We just have to wait till we get the tub tied into the front floor. Then it should be rigged enough to take off. At that point we will weld up the rest of the body and tub. Till next time

I forgot the pics

coming along nicely....that first pic of the possum looked like he was way unimpressed by the 4x2 is all.

Ok we where able to get the passenger side rear quarter done and tied into the rear tail gate jam. We still have to cut the wheel well out. After that will have to get the body hammer and dolly to get he curve work into shape. I stated to cut out the cancer on the other rear quarter panel. I am now having to wait to get the rear quart railing where the hard top mates to the body. i think it coming along pretty good for a rookie. Will not be a show car but I am building it to do a serious off road'in. What this beast was made to do.
Well I am getting a radiator and fuel pump fitting as well. So I am going to pull the 2f that is not running and put in the 1.5F with the SM420 and 3 speed tcase. That was a perfect running engine when pulled. Then it will be drive able to get it to the garage to work on and the back to the barn were it is stored. Way better then having to tow it every time.

Ok, so it has been a while sense my last post. With an old rusty girl like this you never know what you are going to run into. It took use way to long to get the old rusty 2f out of there. So of you pro would have had a good laugh. 10 years ago we where never able to keep the thing running. Had a holley carb, a piece of crap electric fuel pump. So I took that baby out and put in a 1.5 F that was puled from a running car about a year ago.

Well after getting the new engine which took less time then getting the old one out. I didn't have engine hook on the 2f, so we had to make our own. It with that engine tranny and tcase almost hitting 1,000 pounds i hear, we had to make then so they would not fail. His dad would be pretty upset if I broke open his drive way. Had some fun with the wiring. The alternator is on the driver side now. The dizzy has points, so had to figure out how to wire up the coil. I got it working but someone told me I need a resistor on the coil. I am not sure which side to put it on. They said it would burn up the points faster. Does it go on the + side or the - form the condenser? Non the less we got it fired. I used a old fuel cell that my buddy pulled from his cruiser. Should see the hack job that guy did to his poor tub to get the 5 gal fuel cell in. SO the engine fire is runs pretty good with that old fuel. It doesn't even smoke. I dont have a throttle cable for it yet.

Then trying to find a drive shaft that would fit either the front or the back. This 1.5f has the SM 420 GM tranny on it with the 3 speed t case. Also the front and rear spring have been flipped. I will also be putting 60 rear spring on this baby. I was able to find one that would fit the front. I got it hooked up and the tcase put in 4 high. But it would just spin. Made sure the hubs where locked which they where, but nothing. Come to find out one of the warn crap hubs where not locking. I was able to get it apart, kinda, and get it to engage. I am planing on replace them when the times comes for that. So now I have a drive able rig back in for-with from the garage to the barn. Well it take 2 people, one to work throttle and one to work gears clutch and steering. Till next time.

More pics

I also had a lot of rust under the doors. I saw some pics that my buddy sent over about making boat side for the cruiser. So i decided to cut it off, it will give me more clearance and less work to do. :D Also finally got some primer on the raw steel.

Ok, so I know it has been a long time sense I have been able to give you an up date. I got a promotion at work, and have also got engaged. So times are a little busy to say the least.

So I have been thinking a lot about how I really want to do with this rig of mine. All the true Land Cruiser fans may want to stop reading. I have decided to go with a 1 ton drive train and with a Chevy LT1 V8 for my power plant. I got the engine lets say for X mas from my fiance. I was a great deal, low miles 80,xxx. I have a nice picture of under the valve covers. This LT1 has the 2nd generation of the optispark dizzy. It is vented to help keep the dust and moisture out of the there. I am going to replace cap, o rings and rotor. Then going to use black rubber sealant to make sure it is airtight. I also got new spark plugs , wires and water pump. I want to make sure I do not have problem when out wheeling. Now I will have a spare dizzy and water pump for the part bin. I am going to make the back of the tub witha large pull out drawer. I will keep recovery gear, tools , and parts that will always stay in my rig.

Now for the driv e train. I have a SM465 with a Np205. I am getting a twin stick set up for this t case, and may be adding the Np203 in between it at some point. I am planing on going through the T case. I am going to be running a 14 bolt FF 63 WMS axle in the rear. Going to put a Detroit locker , and 4:88 or 5:13 gears. Not sure what size tire I want to run. 37's, or maybe 39's . I have a rebuilt kit on the way as well for the axle. It does have drum breaks but not sure if I will be keeping them. I am going to use a monolink for the rear with panhard bar. Going to use a 3" ballistic joint. Going to make the Frame for the link bar out of 3X3 square tubing, .25 " thick. Going to be using stock 80 coils in the rear. I want to run a Dana 60 Kingpin front end. Going to be using Fj62 rear springs flipped in the front. I will be cutting down the driver side shaft to make it 64 WMS width.

Well I have a lot of cruiser parts I need to sell to keep this made project alive. I have a1.5 f engine for sale, SM420 swap with 3 speed t case. Everything you need to swap behind your f engines. 2f engine that would be good for parts. Was running 15 years ago. But I will be getting the new frame over to start chopping all mount off I no longer need. Also been working hard on the back of the tub to really make it look like it is one piece. So I will try to keep you up to date. I should have the engine off the stand and drive train all hooked up. Then it is time to start laying everything out. Put the pieces of the puzzle together one at a time.

I had some better pictures but not sure what happend. Will take more when I am over there. I will need to trim the wheel wells a lot more, but going to wait till I see where I put the axle and what size wheels I am going to run. I guess this should be moved to the rookie hardcore section.

Agreed about moving it to hardcore...it has taken a real turn for the worse. And to think it was a perfectly good cruiser to start with.
:flamingo:

Well I have now gotten my drive train all bolted together and all the clutch parts needed to get this thing going. I also have got my twin sticks hooked up. Just have to make mod to shifting shaft to get FWD. I am still working hard to get the body ridged enough to move over to the other frame. Then I will be ready to mount the engine and drive into its resting place.

I am still on the hunt for a good deal on a Dana 60 kingpin front axle. It was raining the day I want to work on my body, and don't have a way to cover it while working on it. So I have taken apart my T case and started a rebuild on that. I was not able too get it done because of not having a 1 5/16 socket. Even if I did, I am sure it was not getting done that day anyways. I got was able to order all the joints and tub needed to get my rear end done. I have a locker and rebuild kit for diff and wheel bearings. I am just waiting to get a shaved diff cover, and still trying to find out what gears I will be running.

I know it has been a long time. I have since gotten the new frame into my nice clean garage. I made a 8'x8' platform that I hung from my garage ceiling to store all the junk, put in 8, t-8 shop lights, and also wired 2, 220 outlets. 1, 50amp and 1, 30amp. I have also got a new hobart 190 welder.

So after getting the new frame into the garage, I cut off all the mounts I would no longer need. The body I have is a 79 and the new frame was a 78. I got the perfect frame for 150 bucs so I said I would make the 2 work. I was able to cut off the body mounts from the old frame and get them over to the new. Soon after I was able to get the front bib on and the radiator mounted. I then set the engine and drive train between the frame rail and started to get thing the way I wanted. I was a little hard because I did not have the body over at my place to make all the measurements I needed, but was able to get the cross member made for the tranny. The engine and drive train is tucked up nicely into the frame. I will be able to run a flat skid plate along the whole frame up untill the crossmember for my mono link. With that said once I did get the body over to the house, I am having some issue clearing the t case and the seat pan I made. So I had to cut it out and I am thinking of a solution for now. I also still have to get the front engine mounts made. I have all the pieces I need. Once I get the engine mounted, I have a stand alone wiring harness and a reprogrammed ecu for it. I will get that all hooked up and should hear it run I am hoping by the end of the month. I will post up pictures once I get home.

Ok, sorry for the delay. Things have been a little busy and wedding planning must be one of the hardest thing to go through. But I have this build to keep me busy.

So I was able TO get the engine mounted in the frame and everything welded in place. I had great help from 40TUDE, and indianporfavor. Austin did most of the welding on the heaver stuff. Thanks again. I was also able to get the middle body mounts made and the rest of the front floor cut out so I can finish the framing for all the flooring. I have also cut out the stock crossmember and have plate to plate the from and going to make a crossmember from 3x3 spuare tubing 1/4in thick for my mono link my

So after all that I then got the engine all wired up and jerry rigged the fuel pump and wires just so I can hear it run. I was able to hook up radiator but one of the lines will need to be change. I will add the to the huge to do list. I was having major issue with the fuel pump getting fuel. It is one of those in line pump. One of the best people say all over the net. I know it was spinning. So made sure the wires where rght and the lines on the proper end nogo. SO then I took off the hoses and just filled a cap with gas to see if it would pic it up. It would but not come out the other end. So I took it apart and found a one way valve that was stuck shut. Problem solved and the engine fire up fir try. I have the MAS sensor jerry rigged for now as well but that was a great feeling. Idles like a champ, revs nice, no smoke. Great deal on the motor for sure.

Now it is time to tackle the steering and from suspension. Got all the parts just need to piece it all together. This should be fun. 40TUDE I need ya. Thanks for reading. Till next time .
