I'm in need of a spare tire.
My current set up is 235/85r16.
It's hard to find a not-so-expensive compatible 16" rim. I like the city racer rims but it's a bit much for a spare ( I would actually replace all of my wheels with these but can't justify the cost at the moment, even though I'm happy to give him the $). I can find a solid axle toyota related 15" rim 2nd hand locally for not much.
So, I've looked around the internet a bit but still don't quite understand if I just cobble together a 15" rim with a tire diameter that is close to what I have currently if that will work...?
I know that you don't want to run off-sized spares for a lot of miles but it seems reasonable to run something like a 1/2 inch smaller to get out of the woods or whatever situation happens.
(I also have tire plugs and an air compressor in the kit...)

You can run almost any size on the front if the hubs are un locked. A can of starting fluid and a lighter can be handy if you need to re-seat a bead. A ratchet strap can work and is less exciting. Plugs work - get extra plugs and a can or two of glue. Those little tubes go bad if opened. There are new screw in plugs that look real interesting.

Toyota did make a 16inch x 6 rim very similar to their 15s, 0 offset, the edge of the centre disc is rolled rather than just welded to the rim. Keep looking, they're hard but not impossible to find over here as most people go to something wider and shinier. I was running 235/85-16s but have gone to 31x10.5-15s now.
I still run one of the 16s as my spare, the under deck spare holder won't handle a 10.5

Yeah, I need to re-up my truck kit for the rig, thanks for the suggestions! Guess I'll have to look up this starting fluid method, probably helps to have a can or three of beer while performing this fix.

I'll probably run a 31x10.5-15 for a spare (opposite of you) since I can find a used rim and tire locally... keep my eyes out for a 16 that you mentioned....
