The Good:

With new oil and a fresh battery the motor caught and ran on the 3rd or 4th rev on the 1st crank. And it runs very well even though the gas is a bit yellowed from age.

All the lights seem to operate except for the turn sig, and nothing electrical smoked or caught fire!

The Bad:

As suspected, the rear diff was toast...maybe worse. The ring gear was completely sheared off the backing plate taking the pinion with it. Blue, my mechanic, is going to swap his used one and rebuid it at the same time. 2 pix at:

The Ugly:

All the goo and crap that's gonna fall in my eyes and on my face when I get under there and begin cleaning.

The steering is very loose so a kit of tie rod ends will be in order soon along with a power steering mod. Disc brakes won't be far behind, with a booster. But that's all depending on how attached I get to the rig.

Elvis, my FJ60, is looking weepy-eye'd. I named him Elvis because he was whacked in the driver side front before I got him and the body shop never quite got the left side lined up very well. As a result the hood is up a tad on the driver side front giving it a bit of a sneer. It's bright white too but no jewels or fancy stuff.

"Thank you, thank you very much."

Save yourself some time and get or rent a hot/steam pressure washer (preferrably with ability to add cleaning solution or degreaser).

It has become my favorite tool for cleaning up the gumpka and other varieties of goo on knuckles, engines, and drivetrain components. Searched for months for one at a decent price and bought it about a year and a half ago.

Which one did you buy?

Something like this.. but on wheels with an enclosure around it. 220V, diesel fired burner... I made a little mod with dryer hose to route exhaust away from the shop.

I had been looking for a Karcher and came across the one I bought. Huge bonus was that it came with all kinds of hoses and wand extensions, so you could reach to your house's roof if you wanted. 99% of the time I use it without any extensions to get under and around the trucks.

I should mention I got it on CL in fairly used condition for about $600, so you get an idea of what is out there. Used, these generally run for $1000-1200
