What a relief!
FINALLY got the engine in and done fixing things that should have been ok to start. Long story for
another thread, but suffice it to say, the engine is in! Started up without a hitch and runs much smoother. Discovered that the one sure way to fix engine pinging is to rebuild it!
I just got back in from a 50 mile break in, will drain the oil in the morning and put on a new filter. The engine is stronger, no doubt. Jumped on the onramp of the 303 at Cactus and easily reached 65 before reaching the gore point. And yes, the ramp is uphill.
Did not get near as much done on it as I would like and feel fortunate she started and ran as easily as she did. After everything that went wrong with the rebuild, I am surprised to be honest. Will dial her in next weekend when I have more time...
Photos below do not show new Photoman pulley for the Sequoia alternator, new 2kw starter or AC compressor.
I will have to repaint the valve cover and spark plug wire covers next time I am in there as they got beat up abit during the install and redoing things two and three times before I could get all the bugs worked out.
Bumper is still not on the truck and I have to wire the winch and lights yet, quite a bit of rework to do.
Here are photos of the engine just before I bolted it up to the transmission before installation.
