Cooper STT's
Thought I should add this here too. Thanks again Steve, for getting me the 37xR17 Cooper Discoverer STT tires, and setting up the installation at Big O Tire. Also for storing them, while we waited for the those damn Mickey Thompson wheels to be made, too bad the due date kept getting postponed, even till now. I ended up having to go with the Black Rock 17x9 steel rims, with the same specs as the Mickeys. I used Counteract balancing beads, instead of weights for the install. I'm really happy with the end results, here are some pics of the set up.

Lance, what product did you use? do you feel any imbalance at lower speed?
I used a product before and had to remove it.
Made balance worse, clumped together, was just a bloody mess to remove as well.
I will post up the name if i can fin it.
These are what Steve brought in for my wife's truck.
I had to open up the centers a bit to fit them over the hubs.

Where did you get the centre hub bore ground out?
I'm using Counteract balancing beads, that I got from B-line in East Burnaby. I've used them to balance my hard to balance 37" Super Swampers, when I emergency swapped them onto different rims for the recent Moab trip, and found they worked great. I had the Super Swampers re-balanced a year ago using weights, and it took almost a 1/3 of my rim covered in weights to get them close to balanced, so I figured I would give balancing beads a try. I used 10oz bags instead of the recommended 8oz, just to be on the safe side, since it was bear to balance with weights. I was going to try Dyna Beads (ceramic beads) last year, but ran out of time for an impending trip, since I would have had to order them. When I did a search again this year, this brand Counteract (coated glass beads) popped up with a dealer in Burnaby, so I went with them. With the new install, I noticed a imbalance at low speed, but as soon as I hit the brakes, I guess the bag that contained the beads must have broke, letting the beads move around to do their job. They work great at low and high speeds, and I also recently had the swampers removed from the rims I borrowed, and they were dry and loose inside the tire as they should be, and vacuumed out nicely.
Those Eagle wheels look great, I passed on them earlier, because I thought the faux beadlock ring might be too blingy for me, and I wanted the beadlock ring to be removable like the Mikey Thompson Classic Lock, so if I smashed the lip, I would just replace the ring. Now that I see how those wheels look on an 80, they are pretty nice, and not as blingy as I first thought. Kicking myself now. The M/T wheels I have been waiting for, have turned out to be a big waste of time and screwed my plans of having them and the Coopers mounted on my truck for the Moab trip. From what I have read on the web, they wont make them until they have a big enough run.

Hey Lance, those black rims look good to me- nice match for the truck imho. Just try to keep the shiny side up ok? and there are no more excuses for your crappy wheeling skills now! 'My crappy tires wont grip" etc. I bet you purposely delayed installing them so you'd be able to continue the whining on the Moab trip!
Never thought I would say this but 37's are starting to look small.
Yeah, they do to me too. I think the gap in the wheel wells from the 6" lift give it that effect. Another guy on mud, Nay has a 3.5" lift with 37's, and the tires look their size.
I really like the look on yours, the hight and tires look just right. I have seen quite a variance in rated size and real size in 37'" tires as well, some are no bigger than 35's.
The Coopers are suppose to be close to a full 37 from what the manufacturers website shows at 36.9. I should actually take a measurement to see if it's close.

i like the backspacing on the wheels though, both vince n lance. they dont stick out like a sore thumb...nice n low key and not a VI heat score.

Looks good! I use ceramic beads from Tire Balancing Products. They wrok well also. No clumping. Went with the slightly larger beads (2mm?) that didn't need special valves.
Every now and and then, a bead will get lodged in the valve stem when airing down and if using Staun deflaters no problem as a shot of air from OBA sends it back inside. But once, a bead got stuck using the ARB EZ-Deflater (removing valve stem) and I had to remove the valve stem and refill. I will probably switch to RV Antifreeze at some point.

The manager at Big O Tire swapped out the long valve stems that came with the beads, in favour of the short ones. He said the longer ones are prone to have problems. Do they blow out when you remove the valve stem?

I got an unexpected surprise yesterday, when I went to pick up my ZODI heated shower and shower cover. I was told I had 6 packages. I'm thinking WTF did I buy in my sleep??? When she said they were wheels, then the light bulb came on. The Mickey Thompson Classic Lock wheels finally came, I was going to cancel the order, but decided to sit on it a while longer. I didn't think I would be getting them anytime soon. After trying the new set up on Eagle in the snow, I ended up nicking my steelies a bit on some of the rocks. It was that reason I wanted the Mickeys, but now looking at the sacrificial ring, it's kind of on the thin side of 5/32 thick and milled down to 1/8 on the outer edges, with 5 or 6 mounting points. I would like to get some made up that are a bit thicker.
Are they the Mall bead locks? If you are worried about keeping the wheel from getting damaged get some rock rings cut at a waterjet/CNC plasma shop and weld them to the wheels you have the tires on now.
