Have Truck, Will Travel
I just wanted y'all to know I got the BJ42 fixed. It has taken awhile because I've had very little time to work on it.
After confirming good grounds, replacing the EDIC relay, and cleaning the ignition switch; I started back tracing the lines to check their integrity. I avoided replacing the EDIC motor because I was afraid I would screw something up with the linkage etc. No luck... consistent chattering and undependable starting and stopping.
Today I pulled the EDIC motor off my donor engine, cleaned it and replaced the one on the BJ. Everything is working properly. No angry chipmonks under the glove box and I have dependable starting and stopping.
I dismantled my bad EDIC motor and found black grease had dislodged from the end cap and covered the electrical contacts around the spindle. I cleaned it up, regreased the bearing with a touch of dielectric grease and put it in the spare parts bag.
I did notice that the repair manual suggests checking continuity for the three operating positions of the EDIA motor. I couldn't do that because I couldn't move the motor shaft on either unit.
Thanks again for the patient explanation. I remain... a banana peel mechanic. ;_-)
