I have a 1986 southwind motorhome that has a th400 tranny that is apparently getting sick. Total mileage on the tranny is about 60K but those were fairly hard miles.

I'm going to be driving to Texas shortly, so I want to make sure that the tranny is in as good a shape as it can be.

How hard is it to rebuild one of the th400's? Or is it better to just pay the $600 for a shop replacement?

I have rebuilt a C6, and that was not complex at all. So I am not a newbie on auto transmissions. But if the parts would cost $400 and a replacement would cost $600 then I don't really see the reason to do it myself..
