OK. I went over to the Metroplex yesterday to do a little comparison shopping between an '08 LC and an '08 Range Rover. I'm not going to get too specific on too many details. This is more of a summary. I decided to drive the LC first. First and foremost, I like it . It really does look better in real life. As far as styling goes, I personally feel like Toyota could have done some things better, but all in all it does look like a LC. Out of curiosity and to get Shott's blood pressure up;) I put an '08 Highlander up against it and you can sure tell the family resemblance (which I personally do NOT like!). The LC looks very substantial and rather imposing...Like it Should!! That was the exterior. The interior is first class all the way. Don't be worried about the dash pods being difficult to read, they're OK. The materials, design, and fit and finish are quite good. This LC is put together like I would expect a Lexus to be. The driving experience was excellent as well. The power delivery was great, the ride was plush but firm (good) and the electronic goodies like crawl control are just plain cool ! All in all I was quite pleased with it since I really went into this with quite a lot of skepticism about this new LC. Now, after the LC I went to the LR store and kicked a few tires over there. Since this is a LC forum I am going to be brief about the Range Rover. The RR is pure class. It looks great, drives fabulously and the interior is even more posh than the LC. I drove both the standard 305 hp version and the S/C with 400 hp. The s/c version just plain rocks !! As far as driving dynamics go the RR and LC are quite similar. I took the RR to the LR off road test track to try out it's capabilities and it didn't disappoint. It is a shame that Toyota doesn't have something similar to demonstrate the LC's off-road prowess!! OK, here is what I got from driving the LC and RR. I would most likely pick the LC over the base RR. They are priced very close and the LC has 380 HP vs. 305 HP in the RR. The RR doesn't look and feel THAT much better to offset the HP difference. Anyway, I like power !! If money was no object I would choose the RR s/c, no question about it. The RR s/c commands a steep premium of about $17K--$20+ over the LC. Is it worth it, probably not, but the RR's exterior styling is far and away more pleasing to me than the new LC's and, it has some intangibles that I just like more. It will be interesting to see how the LX570 is priced. I personally feel that Lexus should give the LX more HP than the LC. That would (in my eyes) be a smart move given the premium that the LX will certainly command. I know the LX will have even more gizmos than the LC but I'm not sure Lexus can do enough to this platform to sway me from a RR s/c without (at least) a 20-30 HP bump. I am sure that the LC and LX will sell very well none the less. That being said, I like the new Land Cruiser. Am I going to get one? Possibly, but not until I see and drive the LX570 !!

Well, you are probably right when comparing the 100 series to a RR but with the price increase of the 200 series LC/LX they are creeping pretty damn close to the RR's. Anyway, people who will plunk down the cash for a new LC/LX or RR and use them as they are designed are few and far between. At least in the USA. We are the exception, not the norm. If I end up getting a RR I'll send ya some off-road pics of it !!

Personally I don't think the LX looks-wise would be better than the LC. The bumper on the LX from the profile looks all wrong.

Nice comparison!!

I was thinking about the RR before I got the LC. The only issue I had was that there was no room behind the third row seats. I needed the double stroller storage :)

The pricing for the RR (supercharged option) was alot more also.

Tell me this....the crawl option sounds, scared the hell out of you also at first!?

Very few things sounds as painful as the sound it makes huh?

When I'm sitting in the drivers seat I like to do the driving !! It's a strange sensation to say the least.

I wasn't aware that RR's even had a third row seat ??? Sure you weren't meaning the LR3 ?

I agree!!

RangeRover, LandRover, Rover Dover....all the same last name :)

it it was to be your DD and you don't have tons of kids and stuff like me - and a very positive cashflow - i'd go for a RR S/C - lease and get rid off within 3 years!

If I end up going with the RR s/c I will lease for 4 years. Here is why...Warranty 4yrs/ 50,000 miles. To be truthful though, I'm probably going to lease whatever I get. Vehicles are getting so complex, keeping them after the warranty is going to be an expensive proposition. "Owning" a car doesn't make any difference to me really.

I would really like to compare one to one of these. http://www.gtrnissan.com/index.html
About the same price but just little bit faster. I think I will keep the 97 and put my money into one of these. Nice part is that I can go 180mph with the wife and kids

uhh...

That's a "sports car" not an SUV. You can't compare an SUV with a sports car. But you knew that already.:grinpimp:

Haven't I already said that I might keep the 2001 LC and get a GTR when they come out? Guess it was in another thread. $70,000+ is a lot of cash for a Nissan, no matter how good it is. Toyota and Nissan had trouble moving Supras and ZX's in the mid/ late 1990's when their prices topped out at around $50,000 ish. Too early to tell, but personally, I would not blink an eye at the GTR's price if it were an Infinity, but as a Nissan, wellll....

HA! This doesn't bug me whatsoever. I've said all along....(which almost everyone mis-quotes)....I don't care what the new Cruiser looks like. I don't care if it looks like a Camaro.

What counts is that the vehicle is still a Land Cruiser, in and underneath. It''s OK to not like the looks. It's a foolish person who states it's not a Cruiser or it (the vehicle) sucks because it looks like a Highlander.

And by the way....it does look similar to a Highlander. Who cares? You'd be embarrassed to be seen in the Cruiser because of it? NOPE!

I dunno, when the looks of the LC gets diluted into utter blandness and you can't tell it from a Highlander or whatever, it will dimish the exclusivity of a Land Cruiser. It doesn't matter if the thing is built like a Sherman tank or not. The LC has a great reputation world wide and part of that mistique is its performance as well as a distinctive look. You might be one person who is not swayed by the looks of a vehicle but there are many, many more who ARE interested in how the vehicle looks as well as how it performs. And quite frankly if I plop $70,000 for a LC and it is barely indistinquishable from a $35,000 Highlander, why bother with the LC? Toyota builds the best vehicles on earth (says you) so how much better can a LC be than a Highlander? If it's a Toyota it is faultless, right? Great is great, huh ??? Maybe I will get a Highlander, take all of it badges off and replace them with Land Cruiser ones! I wonder, would anyone even notice?? Hmmm, maybe I'm on to something here. Buy a Highlander, save $40K , invest the rest !!!

A lot of folks buy on looks. You can too. It's your right. :)

I just saw the new Kia. Man, it has a v-8 and appears to have a low range transfer case, air suspension, etc..

Maybe this can compete with the new 200. If they sell them for $30K

I can't remember if it was Kia or Hyundai but their new flagship,
V8,RWD sedan due in a year or so for the USA looked pretty good.

That was the Hyundai "Genesis" This is suppose to have the same v-8 Tau engine. THere are spy pictures of it in cold-weather testing. It looked almost like a FJZ80.

If Kia/Hyundai sells these cheap, these could be the next UN convoy trucks in Asia.
