Temperature display: E E

On start-up the I/O temperature display on the dash keeps showing E E [both inside and outside] instead of the actual temperature for longer periods, before finally showing numbers.

What's the cause?

What's the fix?

I've never seen this yet on a toyota, but it generally means your sensor, or unit, is hooped or starting to fail.

It could be the unit itself, seeing as it's both in and out displays. Mine was on the fritz for a bit last year, showing crazy high temps outside. but seems to have sorted itself out. Never a problem with inside. and never seen the E E on the display.
However, my Pajero did it all the time. never did figure it out.
Check the wires leading to the sensors.

Mine showed E when there was no inside temp sensor hooked up, but for both to show it and then come back is odd

Odd for sure. It started a few months ago and is gradually getting worse, with the E E happening more frequently and staying on longer before finally settling into the correct temperatures. It's also started showing temps in 40s and 50s occasionally.

Mine displays E E about half the time, and once in while I get 50+ on both. Haven't fiddled with it yet.

Mine is constantly on E E. Must be a 7x thing..
