I've been having a problem getting my temp gauge to work for quite some time now. I just swapped out the sender unit and for some reason I can't get a resistance reading with my meter going from the terminal to the sender body/threads. I have a small block 350 in my '77 FJ40 and I'm using the SAE to NPT adapter so I can use the OEM sender with the OEM gauges. The wire going from the circular dash plug going through the firewall to the sender is getting about 5 to 7 volts and when checked with the ignition on and a continuity tester shows pulsating voltage. I am pretty sure this is correct. Is my problem with the new sender again? All my grounds seem ok and all the other gauges on the cluster work fine. When I first installed the the new sender and attached it to the cluster I was getting a decent reading on the gauge at idle. Once I started moving the gauge would deflect from the low mark to the high mark like a speedometer (constantly moving back and forth). After a few minutes it would drop back down to below the C mark and not move again. First off, is my lead from the dash the correct one. I believe it is the tan wire on position 6 on the circular plug. I'm assuming the sender I got from CCOT would last more than a day. Any ideas where to start. I'm getting a little frustrated... Any ideas?
