tail lights alternate location?

so these tail lights are darn expensive... they always get rubbed on, smacked and or broke. i have been tossing around ideas for just resessing some of these lights in the tail gate, sure i could build a exo cage of sorts to protect that area but they still get damaged. some of the trails are ravines that lean you over and you rub down that side and pack the area between the bar and body full of dirt ans the pressure still breaks the light. sure i could not do them trails but where is the fun in that. so just tossing around ideas is all.

maybe some different style of armor.

just get cheap aftermarket LED tail lights and put the OEM on a shelf. I paid $68 for a pair. You might need to change the blinker to one that supports LED.

just a FYI...tail lights can't only be on body panels that move.

I doubt any law enforcement would really care unless your state has inspections or your police are assholes...
