Tacho change

I changed the dash on my 79 series 1HZ with that of a unit with the Tacho and volt meter, everything works when I pluged it in except the Tacho, How can I make it work, Where is the pickup?
I am at wits end...

pickup is on the IP. Not all IPs have it. There is a magnetic pickup on the block side of the IP (ie: between the block and the IP). Should be two or three wires coming off of it.

Not sure how you wire those to what you have but that's where you start.

Thanks for the reply, I found a photo else where of a pump with the pickup and found the part number of the pickup sensor but my pump seems to have a welsh plug in the hole, does it need to be tapped? There is already 3 wires in the body side of the 3 pin plug and at the back of the dash there is already wires.
