Swap HDJ81 Drivetrain to FZJ80

I would get a hold of Stan at Toyoutfitters... He is working on engine swaps for the 80 using factory GM crate motors. This means a brand new drive train, tons of power, tons of aftermarket support, and a warranty.

The tough number for me is that I'm into my 81 for around $20k between the purchase price, repairs and upgrades. So basically it'd be $30k+ once done...and it'll still need glow plugs/injectors/new pump in the coming years.

It really not that bad - 'value' is based on what your truck fetches in the market place when you sell it NOT what you put into it.
Alternatives ?? -buy a much newer 100 Series for $20k and use the $10K to pay for the reduced fuel economy and/or go to the US more often to wheel and fuel up. I was in Spokane a few days ago - gas selling for $2.96 US gal - that is $0.87/l at 12% exchange rate.

Yeah...and I really prefer the solid front axle over ifs...and like my manual trans.

.... It is cleaner than mine, better paint, has air bags, bigger brakes, ABS, and rear sliding windows. And, at the end of the day, being LHD makes it IMHO more valuable if converted....

Hmmm, 'worth it' depends on if these differences add a $10k (?) value to the truck you were already happy enough with to have "invested" over $20-only-partially-recoverable-k into. This is a different circumstance to starting with a gas truck and deciding swapping to diesel makes long term sense when calculating fuel mileage will eventually pay off the swap in x number of km's driven. So really it is a judgement of whether enjoyment in driving/ownership/aesthetics and a few updates to modern safety blanket devices makes it a good choice for a slightly different/similar money pit .

Seriously though, they don't sell the equivalent truck new in Canada, so if that is the ideal vehicle for your foreseeable future use, and you have the means, go for it.

I make myself feel better by saying that I cannot buy a new or newish vehicle that is anywhere near what I want thus I have to make one. I tried an FJ Cruiser and it was fine but it was always pretending to be something it wasn't: a Land Cruiser.
