Anyone ever built one? Would like to camp some this summer buy it's getting hot. I looked on pinterest at a simple cooler with pvc pipe and a baterry powered fan. Blows air across a block of ice.

http://fivegallonideas.com/air-conditioner/ for something that uses ice. Or this for cooling without ice:

I've never used ice (never had a fridge set up), but I will say that my swamp cooler (similar to the one in the video) worked incredibly well through a few AZ summers before it was broken by a drunk buddy. Not sure how well it would work for you tho, being in SC (humidity).

Swamp coolers don't work very well when the humidity is over 30%.

why do you want to camp in a swamp?

Because it is cool.

I confuse...

Lol I am looking for a cheap way to cool my tent. Go to pinterest and search swamp cooler.

Swampies work pretty well out here in the arid West. Another good option to remember is a natural fiber tent; they breathe much better than nylon fabric and other synthetic fabric tents. A swampie in a synthetic tent makes a much higher than normal chance of rain inside.

As the others have stated, a swamp cooler will only work in very dry places. We had a swamp cooler in our house for a while in New Mexico. It worked really well on the dry days. If it rained outside and the air was humid the thing was worthless. We eventually switched the house over to refrigerated air.

I can't imagine it would work at all in SC.
