After looking for a trailer for the last year, I happened across this beauty at a swap meet that was taking place locally. I actually was looking for something that had already been modified somewhat so I wouldn't feel guilty about hacking up something fairly original. Now my thinking is to not cut this thing up at all. Just having this trailer is going to change things drastically as far as how I use my 40.

The p.o. had a box with the original equip. and hardware he had removed.

The tires are cracked so I will have to address that.

He also threw in these tires and rims which apparently are for a m100 trailer.

Nice score!

I'd throw the original lights back on it and chuck it on the for sale forums at Steel Soliders...probably double your money, that is if you got it for a good price.

It seems pretty clean...I wouldn't touch it

Good find, good luck with it

x2 on keeping stock. If it is as clean as pics appear find someone who is looking for an original and sell it. Keep looking for one to chop and mod. That looks gorgeous!

The thought of flipping it has crossed my mind. I think it would be a sin to cut this puppy up, but one of the reasons I got one of these was to mod it to what I needed. It is a good feeling having a piece of history and being able to preserve it. For right now I will enjoy it for what it is.

I too would throw the original lights back on. But not to sell it. I run those same housings on mine but changed the lenses to what they call Gama-Goat lenses. They screw right on the housing but the whole face is a red lens. I installed a four pin pigtail into the connection box in the front. I have a M101A1 that I robbed the connections to make the pigtail. Then just switched the bulbs out to 12 volt. 8 watt for the tail light and 23 for the brake/turn signal. The housings are metal and the bulb sockets are rubber mounted which helps the bulb element from breaking while bounding around off road. Much better setup than what on ther now.

Wow! that is cherry, rare find. I'll be nosey, how much??? I'd guess, $1200+.

These trailers seem to be much more expensive in california than the rest of the country. When I saw the trailer I thought for sure he was going to say he wanted 1500 +. He was asking $1000. and let me have it for $900. After looking so long, I wasn't going to pass that up.

Great info. Where did you find the Gama-Goat lenses?

I still think you did great!

I've bought a couple set off Ebay. The latest for $15 including shipping. I can post a picture of the lense if you want.

Those M100 wheels look nice. I just picked up a set for my MBT. Not as clean a yours but a good price. You can use the tires but I wouldn't use the wheels on a M416 axle. The M416 uses the center hub to center the wheel. The M100 wheel center is larger. Nut sure if tapered lug nuts would work but I wouldn't use the lug nuts off the M416.

That would be great if you can post up the pic of the lense. The po told me the m100 wheels wouldn't work so I am thinking about selling both the tires and wheels together. Any idea what they're worth?

I get you some pictures of the lenses tonight. On the wheels and tires it depends on what shape the tires are in. If you were local I would be interested. It would save me from sanding and painting my wheels and then buying tires. Original tire for a M100 would have been 6.00X16 NDT. Those look to be NDCC tires. What size are they?

I have one or two M416 rims that I can't use on my two M100 or civilian jeep trailers. If you're interested in a swap of rims I'll dig around and see how many I have. I know I have at least one, just looked at it.

Here is a few pictures of the lenses. I use 12 volt single element bulbs I got from Checker/O'Reily. 8 watt for the tail lights and 23 watt for the brake/turn signal. I use the bottom socket for the tail lights. The deeper of the two top sockets for the brake/turn signal.

Thanks for the great info, as I think I am going to put the original lights back on and swap out the lenses. The tires on the m100 wheels appear to have never been on the road. They are Cooper Cross Country 6 ply, 7.00-16 LW Military. I don't know if the dot# will tell how old the tires are but here it is cex293. I will probably put these on the trailer.

The rims for the m100 look to be in pretty good shape with minimal light surface rust which could be cleaned up with a light sanding and paint. I will let you know what I decide to do. Wouldn't hurt to have a spare!

you checked to make sure these bulbs will not get too hot and melt stuff, I assume?

If you look at the two covers side by side you see the full lens cover is deeper which puts the bulb further from the lens. One of the upper sockets and the lower socket are deeper in the housing. Those are the two I use. I have been running these for around four years with no problems. Used them plenty of times at night between my home and cabin a hundred and forty mile trip. The lower wattage tail lights are the only ones that are on all the time. The higher wattage is only brake and turn signal. Does a higher wattage bulb and lower voltage produce that much more heat than the lower wattage and higher voltage:hhmm: The first set I have I bought the housings new from a friend then got the Gama-Goat lenses. The set I just pickep up off of Ebay used I noticed one of the stock non gama goat lenses was melted just a little where the shallow socket is. This still had the 24 volt bulbs in it. I'm thinking some one replaced the larger wattage and larger bulb size in the wrong socket and it was to hot and close to the lens. I understand why heat is a concern but with the way I use mine they are fine:cheers:
