65K miles of short start-ups with no oil changes, overheating in traffic, original air filter, etc. is a lot tougher on a vehicle than 200K on the freeway and being maintained well from the start.

The problem is that unless you know the seller or have a crystal ball you don't necessarily know how the vehicle has been treated. All else being equal (if it isn't equal than one of your apples is an orange) I'd pay a premium for a vehicle with less miles.

Hmmm, I just paid $15,700. for a 96. w/89k, locked, and close to (pink pantys)mint.

I did

Hey all,

Assuming you could find a low mileage (65,000mi) '97 in fine condition would it be worth it to pay $16,000-$18,000 just because it has such low miles?

TR

I did...just paid $18,000 for a 97 with 42K on the OD. Driven by an older couple in a retirement community. It has a few issues but is like new inside and out.

It depends on how you're going to use your LC. I bought a new one knowing that I'm using this one for long trips with the family. The LC currently have 40k miles in it. With proper maintenance hopefully will last me a lifetime. I bought my second one used with 172k miles from a friend who takes good care of his rigs for offroading and weekend driving. :)

About 2 months ago I got my 80 with 89k on it. Black w/grey leather and lockers for 13k. Found it on ebay but sideswiped it from the dealer that listed it. It cost me 700 to ship it from Il to NH. There are not many cars I would buy without a thorough ispection, but I made an exception. It's in great shape and I'm happy with it. Ebay is a good place for a person armed with car knowledge to get a car. IMO. I've bought 2 cars that way and have been more than pleased with both.
