Your post and Tim's got me thinking that there was no way San Jacinto was 16 miles from Humbert Park.

So I got out my map and measured it and sure enough the direct route is only 8.1 miles or 12.1 if you take the long way to through Strawberry Junction which is still "only" 12.1 miles. So the round trip is 16.2 miles which makes a lot more sense, after all people knock this out in a day all the time.

My bad. :o

No worries. I use to train on Vivian Creek over on San G and I thought that was a butt kicker at 16 miles round trip with 5400' elevation change......32 miles with 80% of that elevation change made my legs hurt just thinking about it. For your sake, I'm glad its half that!

By the way, I'm hiking mt baldy via manker flat on Sunday if you want some more training. Great thing about that hike is you can take the lift down and save your knees from the downhill plod.

I'm up for the Mt. Baldy hike, thanks for the invite. Can you call or PM with details. What time do you want to meet at Manker (I am almost never late)?
How much time on the mountain?
Are you taking the lift down, $8.00?? for a one way...I'll be hiking it. LOL

Oh man, Vivian Creek brings back some painful memories. I think you gain something like 1,200' in the first mile. This is where I learned to leave all the uneccesary crap at home and go light.

Hiked up San G on the north side at night during the Hale-Bop comet event in 1997. Very spectacular!

Me too. That trail whooped my butt so bad on my first trip I learned real quick.

I got lucky and randomly met this very very experienced guy (attached) at the trail head who let me tag along and gave me a bunch of tips I carry with me to this day. If anyone recognizes him I'd like to give him a shout out of thanks. I think he's a dentist in the OC somewhere.

PS-His pack was filled with 50lbs of water. Absolute lunatic.

Nice pic. Not sure if you are still doing Baldy tomorrow but I'll be in the parking lot at 7:00am ready to roll if so. Not sure what the service is like up there but my cell is 949 two three five-1494.

Yeah, I thought you got my voicemail? I'll be there around 7:30am and get underway. I'm in a grey corolla with two dogs.

If you need, you can borrow one of mine.

25 degree, 2 lb 12 oz
35 degree 2 lb
45 degree 1 lb 6 oz

Also got a bivy you can borrow.

Wow that is very kind of you to offer, I appreciate it. I found Gabe, he was busy making money and doesn't log in here much to check his PM's. Anyway I bought his bag and bivy and am picking them up this Saturday at he's giving me a tour of his shop.

Thanks again for the offer.

Picked up my gear from Gabe today after climbing Baldy. What a great guy, love the gear and thanks for the tour of So Cal TearDrop shop. The shop is meticulously kept and I got to see first had a half dozen Tear Drops in different levels of construction. To be able to make a living and love what you do, everyone's dream and Gabe is living it.
