Hi Guyz
I can't find replacement for the SUB/ALT lights (4 tinny bulbs) in Egypt, and i don't think it worth shipping them from the US or others :).
so any other ideas? can i replace them directly with LEDs? Or do I have to add some other components? And how J?

You will need a resistor in series with the LED's as they work with a much lower voltage, have a search because one or two forum members have got the LED 'urge' to replace anything that glows with an LED including running lights/dasboard ect.

Do a search for led in the title. There is a megathread about all the bulb types, then maube you can find them in cairo or alex. Ahlan wa sahlan.

I did ya basha, but none mentined the ones i need :(
i'll have another Run:hmm:

Type A IIRC, as they are pretty darn small. If you do go with LED's then you can get them in green and do not need the condom. You should be able to source normal ones locally which are clear and move the condom over from your old lights to your new ones.

Edit: I think the proper Toyota number(s) are as follows

83290E BULB, ACCESSORY METER
84999-50280 14V 0.84W 4 $8.90
90072-02020 14V 2.0W 4 $1.94

Yes, the ones with the Green condoms :), u can't get them here!
I've been out trying to get them for the past month with no luck!!!
so i guess its time to use my Elec. knowledge and fabricate an alternative.
I'll get me 4 Green LEDs and do a simple calculation of the needed resistor, then use my dusty solder.
this will being up collage memories :)
Will let you know as soon as i do it.
Thankssss

Maybe next time I'm in Egypt you can tell me where to get good spare parts that I can't find here :)

I just did the bulbs in mine. I just asked a local shop for a LED repacement for a type b bulb which are the ones in the upper display. There is no soldering involved and I did not need any resistors at all. You just twist out the bulb holders and with a little pick pull the wires out and replace with the Led bulb. Note when you put them in check that they work before putting everything back together as LED bulbs are ground sensitive and only work one way. If they don't work simply take them out and turn 180 degrees and and put back in, they will work great. The definitive LED thread already mentioned is great and a step by step guide.

Cheers and good luck Andre
