After drilling out the two broken bolts that hold the top thermostate housing to the lower housing,on a 77FJ40 2F. I now have a big ugly mess where the threads were. Options are drilling out and thread for 1/2-13( big ass hole), I measured with dail caliapers and that will be the smallist size that will fit. Or will something like J-B WELD work to fill up the existing holes so I can retap? And would it be better to use a stud and nut instead of the bolt? Or.... would it be best to replace the housing? If so.... I'might be looking for one, Thanks...Dave

Same thing happened to me, at least for one of the bolts. I tried drilling all the way through and putting a longer bolt w/ a nut on it. I tightened it to much and cracked the housing. Ended up buying a new housing from CruiserParts.net

    Good luck

Can't repair it with a heli coil or other threaded insert?

    Thanks....

Sorry for the delayed reply friends.
The hole is so wallowed out that the heli- insert threads will break thru to the outside of the casting. After takeing the top of the housing to work and blasting it ,I think it was repaired before. So will try to remove the two rusty bolts holding it to the block. We have a very good tig man in the fab shop that can weld in a couple plugs. Ill just retap.
    Thanks........DAVE
