so the other day my wipers kinda freaked out... they were on intermittent, then suddenly went full on. and now intermittent doesn't work(just goes first speed) and when i turn them off they stop instantly, don't return to the bottom. probably the switch in the column?

Yeah they're easy. I don't remember if a 70 one is the same as a 60 or if there's a difference to the mounting (probably)

But the guts should be the same. Are you 12 or 24v? Even if you're 24, the only difference I found (on a 40 mind you) was the armature, so I popped it out and put it into a nice new looking 12v motor housing and was back in business in an hour.

May be some mixing and matching in your future...or could also be one burned contact in there that you can fix up.

For some reason wiper motors around here seem to get worn out.

Haha imagine that.

It's 24v, it's not a big deal at the moment, reminds me of my old ford that you had to time when to turn off the wipers.

A few weeks ago they went crazy as well, came on for no reason. Also my edic was freaking out. However that probably had something to do with the nitnat river coming up to my passenger seat and the entire r/h front corner of the truck getting a nice wash:bang:

Sounds like a pretty serious water crossing...pics? :hmm:
Wasn't so much of a crossing, I was trying to skirt the edge of the river where it was shallow to avoid some low hanging branches. But the bank was softer than I (rather optimistically) thought.

Why don't you just pull the wiper motor and open it up and see whats what first, it might be something simple.
I will probably check it out first, right now it's on a list of half broken things on the cruiser while I am finishing the ford.

Hmmm. Edic freaking out you say...?

Sounds like you've had a visit from the funky chicken.

When I got the affliction, the solution was polishing up all battery connections, and every ground I could find. Even added another one to the firewall.
I unplugged it for the drive home, and the next day everything seem to be back to normal. Also my battery at the time had a really bad positive terminal on the 24v side.
