Stock RPM's

For those of you out there with a stock cruiser, no lift, no bigger tires, no engine mods, no gear changes, etc; what RPM's are you running at 50 mph. I am right around 2,000, but don't know if that is where it should be. I don't know if it is hanging up in a gear or if I am just confused about what I thought my RPM's should be.

That sound's Normal, My Cruiser is happy at 1500-2200 rpm at that speed

Sounds pretty close. Depends on if torque converter is locked. Out West we generally have bigger hills and have the opportunity to see the T/C lock and unlock by watching the tach on a long grade. With Cruise Control set, you can watch this real clear. Try some experimenting with the O/D button if you suspect O/D not working. T/C should lock up in both 3rd and O/D. Seems like with throttle applied, there's a couple of hundred RPMs difference between T/C locked and unlocked. RPMs will be higher with T/C unlocked. HTH!

I also was curious...I know the tranny only has 4 gears, but is it normal for a stock FZJ80 to be @ 2600 - 2800rpm or so when doin 75-80mph? Seems a lil high, but I guess since there's no 5th gear, it's about right, and it just cont. to go higher from there the faster you go? Man I'm gonna get REAL poor gas economy @ higher speeds...

Upgrade to 33's or 35's (with stock gears) if you want lower gearing.

You're not driving a Camry, you're pushing a 3 ton brick with little aerodynamics, if any.
