I have my FS66 carburetor off for servicing and I don't see a reed valve on the black intake piece . I thought that all of these little engines had a reed valve induction. What's the story here, is my trimmer a model that doesn't use a reed valve ?

That is a piston ported engine. No reed valve used or needed.
