The "step" in the Toyota flywheel is ABSOLUTELY needed. The clutch won't work right without it.

x100... I had one machined flat when I first started out on toyotas.. the cluch would slip like crazy.. EVEN IN LOW RANGE.

talked to the guys at the junk yard and they said it was done and sold me one for 10 bucks..

un less there are blue spots on it and it is smooth as glass I would not worry about it.
if there are tiny cracks, it needs replaced most likely anyways.
also look at the starter teeth and see if the are way worn.

I would,, if I had to do a clutch right now, order marlins new fly wheel. heavy duty clutch and his big pressure plate.

my clutch donsn't work as well as my wifes stock. I have the center force 2. yeh the lock down weights don't seem to work much at all below 3000 rpm.. not what you want for a rock crawler.

don't waste money saving a buck... a clutch job if you pay your self shop costs is worth 65 and hour for your time. to have to do it twice is a waste of money.

Find the guy who takes care of the stock car work in town. I asked a mechanic who he took his flywheels to. Found an old school motor cycle mechanic with old school tools who resurfaced my 22RE flywheel for $45. In his setup he uses a counterweight (tough to explain) to keep the flywheel flat during surfacing. Sweet work, done in a couple of hours.
