K so I added this to my 83 sunrader because, well the steering wheel in it was cracked and hard plastic.

I think most after market wheel look quite gay and added on (no offense to those of you that have one or even you gay guys with one) but I do like a better wheel since both my 83s are almost 30 years old. I was at the local pick ur own part kinda place when I was looking at a 2006 Rav4 wheel and thought, "wow, that looks comfortable" so it was 5 bucks and I thought why not.

so I pull my wheel off and it slipped right on, same spline count and all, even the small protrusion out of the 83s steering column cover fit into it.

K, so now some of you are going to ask horn? yep. took a little figuring but it took me a total of maybe an hour to fab up a mount to put the small brass ring from the 83 onto the new wheel and plug the wire in. cost me a buck for the polystyrene plastic at the hobby store to mount it (plastic so it wouldnt ground and sound the horn)

and the next question is the airbag, want to do the wirng and use it? I am sure you could, but I didnt- you can unbolt it all from the back of the wheel once you take the wheel off and remove the front (horn, center) there are 4 10mm nuts to remove it (and you have one BADASS explosive to um... well that your business) it does contain sodium azide which is highly toxic so done F around with it too much.

as much smaller as the steering wheel looks it is only 1/2 inch per side smaller (1 inch smaller overall) and it sets back about 3/4s of an inch closer to you.

I am guessing than it would work in later model trucks as well if it works in an 83, some of Toyotas truck wheels were sorta on the cheap side.
I do plan on using the cruise control stem that sticks out of the side of the wheel if I end up swapping in a 3RZ later.

it feels like a different truck with the new wheel, easier to grasp, less vibration through it, and I can drive with my knee much more safely now!! c'mon some of you know you do it on occasion, it isnt as slick as the plastic wheel and holds with less pressure from your leg!!
