Steering box interchangeability?

Is a 59 FJ25 steering box the same as a 63 FJ40? I'm thinking the spline counts for the wheel are different but thats it?

Not sure inside, outside there is an ear or something for the column shift on the 40 if I recall. I may have an early 40 box laying around if you want to check it out.

I fitted the all the parts out of a fj45v 1966 into my 1960 fj25 box and it was all good. But i didnt know about the spline, ill have a look.

The steering spline count is the same. Some changes on the steering column. Would be better to put a FJ40 box into a FJ25. The FJ25 doesn't have the the part down by the steering box it self for the transmission column shifter. I don't believe I have any spares at this time. The first early FJ40 I bought out of a junk yard was missing the steering box. I pulled a FJ25 steering box to get it home. I later found one in the Tucson area. Have a extra 68 to 72 box but to be honest I've never counted the splines on the end. The count changed in 7/69 so during that time there were two different steering boxes.
