I bought 4 new black steelies for my 80, after a few thousand miles the two rears went from gloss black to matte black, fronts still nice and glossy. Anyone have this happen before?

All of mine did that (went dull/flat finish). It doesn't bother me; I bought them for their practicality, not their looks (though I didn't particularly like the stock alloy wheels).

Yep mine did that pretty quickly, so I painted them red and sealed with clear semigloss...
Beat the snot out of them and sold them as rollers to someone maybe E, I think. LTB's and FJC steelies did not like each other. I blew a bead on almost every offroad excursion. The steel on them is fairly thin compared to aftermarket steelies.

Had the same issue when I bought my FJC new in 06. They have rock rings on them now and are mounted on my wife's 80
