Hey guys buddy called and needs our help:

87 Toyota- 22re- propane/ 5 speed

-Fully charged battery; wont start, no lights no click
-hook jumper cables to it; wait minute; will start & run
- removed jumper cables, dies- positive/ negative
- leave jumpers on for 15-20 minutes will stay running
-turn truck off after this time dies & start process again...

Any ideas folks for him to check; I mentioned removing fuses & see if circuit related but it sounds like a some type of sensor or relay...

Any help would be great!

I'm thinking his battery is no good. Other than that it might be a bad connection on the battery. Unless he connected the battery backwards.

Check all the connections to the starter and check the fuses. Toyota starters have contacts inside the starter solenoid. Those contacts are copper and get burned from the arching. Start there. As far as the engine stalling it maybe fuel related or your alternator may be failing as well.

Also, a quick way to check to make sure your battery is good. Get a volt meter and put it to the dc volt setting put the positive lead on the positive battery post then put the negative lead on the negative post. Then have a helper turn the key to crank. Watch the voltage. It should drop to 10 volts. If it goes any lower than that your battery is toast.
