I've never understood why some of these Japanese SUVs have such horrible turning specs. This is one of the reasons I'm dumping the 2002 RX300 - if it turns in 44ft then you're lucky. The LX/LC is about 39ft and the GX is about 41ft. Acura MDX/RDX are in the 39ft range and the Honda Pilot is about 40ft. Most Mercedes SUVs are in the 38ft range except the G that is over 44 ft. The Wrangler 2 door has a 34.5 ft turning radius and the 4 door is 40ft. The Grand Cherokee is a hair over 35.

Why does the LX turn sharper than the GX?
interesting! Does GX has the "Turn Assist" feature like LX?

I had a GX loaner for almost a month a few years ago when my The dealer stripped out my oil pan. I was very impressed. I’m also very function over form so could care less about the “image” of the LX. The interior of the GX is very nice, yes not as nice as the LX but when you get to a point nicer really doesn’t matter and the GX and LX are both above that point. I also felt the GX was sort of the just right size for urban driving. I’ve alsays been totally confused by the “mall cruiser” that drive LC/LX in large urban city’s that never searously off road. Anyway if I didn’t tow a large camper I would probably have a GX over my LX. I’ll also add in the era BK (before kids) I always had a sports car (mostly 911’s) and an off roader and preferred the sportier feel of the GX than the boatier feel of the LX.

So to sum it up I really like my LX but the GX is still a Cruiser (Prado) and would probably be better fitted and more appropriate for the vast majority of people on this forum.

I chalk it up to design compromises. Specifically packaging and available space in the front wheel well to accommodate more steering angle.

Many of the Japanese SUVs are FWD architectures. That generally have shorter front driveshafts and short control arms that puts them at more severe angles for steering relative to longitudinal layouts that the European tend to use for SUVs

The LX/LC has more width and space to work with for steering angle vs a GX.

I'd say JDM vehicles also tend to maximize packaging and space constraints with a focus on minimal wheel well intrusion into the cabin front foot well. Compared to Jeeps that have passenger ergonomics that are second rate or poor IMO.
