Hi I am looking to replace my starter on my hdj81 1993. Anybody know the best way to get this big hunk of metal off, and what specific tools I would need? I can't find any videos, and when I search forums it says to hit it from the top, but I can't even see the screws from the top.

Maybe 20-30 minute  job to pull it out. Same to put it back.

Pull it out from the top, but you'll need to get under the car to access one bolt in the starter.
Being RHD, there's not a lot in the way, just slightly awkward to get at. Once you figure out where stuff is, you'll do some of it by feel.

Starter has one bolt through the bellhousing from the rear, one goes through the starter from the front.

You'll need a socket set with some long extensions. 17mm, 3/8 drive with a long extension and flex joint to get the one bolt at the rear.
17mm for the one in the front too.

12mm ( maybe 14mm) ratchet box wrench for the wiring.

so i dont need to take anything off to get to starter right?

I moved mine to get to some transmission hoses, but I do not recall getting any out of the way to gt to the starter itself. I would have had the flap in the wheel well out by this point but I do not think it is relevant to the starter.

Install the new one in the reverse sequence. So, in from the top.

Once you get the old one out, putting the new one in should make sense.

Is not a hard job just a bit awkward because you need to reach over the fender and down low on the engine.
It's hard to see where your hands are, so some of it will be done by feel.

I often use my phone camera to take a few pics in awkward spots, so I can look at the pics to figure out where my hands need to be
