I had a fabrication shop weld in gussets on that idea when teh bracket itself started to crack on the right rear of my BJ40, they did both sides of course. My BJ42 has a riveted in support gusset stock from Toyota, so I guess they finally realized this as a problem area.
I managed to come up with a fix for my rear perch failure. Its not quite a massive as some of the others but it seems to be holding. I thought about using the 3x3 square tubing, but I had 2x2 1/4 wall tubing left over from my tire carrier build so I used that.
It came out okay I think. My welding skills leave a lot to be desired but it looks like it should hold for a while.
