I just installed these 4" alcans this weekend (this is my first build). I sent the pics to the guys at alcan with the same question and the response was once I put the axles in they'll drop down/back (see pics though?).

So my concern is: the shackle angle leads me to feel that the springs are short....but hey what do I know. I just don't have the experience to know if the shackle angle will get corrected once all the weight is added.

any input?

Those shackles will probably cam rearward when weight of vehicle is put on them, BUT what happens in off road terrain??? Looks to me like you will need anti-cam shackles!!!

I just installed the same 4" alcan spring's (well prolly very close not sure how they made them for you ) but you can see in my Wilma build thread thatthe angle is the same as yours. but I have since put it back down on the all 4 tires and the shackle now is only about 5 degrees off vertical. and I have been told by others with alcan's that the spring will push back a bit to make the shackle vertical.
I have 1.5" over stock anti inversion shackles in the front and 2" over stock shackles in the rear. but my lv will see some moderate trail use so I want the springs to be able to flex a bit.
question on your springs/frame I think the swb and the lv have the same frame are your front and rear spring pin and shackle pin's the same size? the rear should be 1 3/8 (roughly) but what are your fronts? mine are 1" or 12-14mm but they made my front spring eyes the same as the rears. which meant me having to refit the front shackle and spring pin with the larger diameter pins. kind of a pain but prolly stronger in the long run.
thanks Jason

Thanks for the responses everyone! I'm putting the hubs and some scrap tires/wheels on this weekend. next weekend I should be dropping the engine in. then you should see a whole butt load of pics (mostly tear down and pre-build condition with some retardedness thrown in).

fogblanket: re:springs - the eye holes of the springs were all the same diameter. I used FJ-60 bushings, which was a problem and required a little grinding. The pins were all the same diameter with the only difference being the two small bolts on the front pins. As far as the shackle pins the fronts were smaller diameter. I ended up throwing in 4 FJ-40 bushings that I had laying around in the front (shackle pin) because it all fit smoother after realizing the 60 bushings were way off compared to the rest of the locations. Hope this helps, sometimes I have trouble writing what I'm thinking :)

Oh yeah, fogblanket: in case you needed this: I had some trouble finding/ordering a lift for my 45 (swb), resulting from the 45s being rare. Everything I found through my research showed all 45 frames the same. I say this because there was more than one person that told me the swb should be the same as a 40. Its not, the rear dimension is 9" longer, which is the same as the lwb, and the others.....but double check anything I say (thats my rookie disclaimer).

thanks for the info I have already mounted my springs I was just wondering what your eye dimensions were front and back and if they were the same on the frame. mine are not. but the springs they sent me the eyes were the larger diameter of the rear. I did not feel comfortable having a small pin float in an oversized bushing so I drilled the nessisary shackle and frame pin fittings to fit the larger diameter pins that I used on the rear. the swb and the lv share a frame but the 45 troopy and lpb are different frames more out of the box suspensions for those than there are for ours.
good luck with your build
Jason
